The 2018 Archery Shooters Association (ASA) season kicked off last weekend in Foley, Alabama with sunny skies, warm temperatures and challenging wind, and resulted in a podium finish for Team Elite’s Nathan Brooks.

Competing in the Men’s Known Pro division, Brooks, along with top-10 Elite finishers Garrett Ayersman, Curtis Broadnax and Chance Beaubouef, battled gusty winds Friday into Saturday. Making the final five shootdown were Brooks and Beaubouef, who happened to be the only shooting class to contend with rain. Ultimately, Brooks, shooting a Victory X, worked his way up from fifth place to third, earning himself a podium spot in the first ASA of the year.

“Every year I set personal performance goals for each type of archery venue I compete, and part of those goals involve building on past year successes,” Brooks said. “Ending 2017 with the Victory 37 and starting 2018 with the Victory X proved to be a very good decision as it gave me the same confidence level I ended with last season. The weather conditions were not optimal, but when you have the most reliable equipment it helps to keep you mentally focused on the job at hand.”

With this third-place finish, Brooks jumps to the #3 spot in the ASA Shooter of the Year category. Following him in the top 10 are:

  • Chance Beaubouef – 4th
  • Curtis Broadnax – 7th
  • Garrett Ayersman – 8th

Shooter of the Year standings in the Men’s Open class are:

  • Darrin Christenberry – 7th
  • David Rose – 9th
  • Brandon Shehan – 10th

“To have two out of five shooters in the Known-Pro shootoff be our guys in blue is a great way to start out the ASA circuit,” said Darrin Christenberry, Elite Archery pro staff manager. “Nathan is known for his consistency and determination, and I’m confident we will continue to see top finishes from him this year.”
